clutch advise

Hiya

I have a freelander 1 ES 1.8 petrol 51 plate and the clutch pedal is quite stiff to push down also it crunches when i put it in reverse gear all other gears are ok. Iv looked at the paper work on the car and it had a complete master slave cylinder replacement on 5 march 14. Any advise would be great thank you

Is the clutch operating shaft seizing in the housing ? - give it a lube just to try see if it improves "easiest" from underneath just dribble some oil down the shaft........

One would hope it doesn't make it as far at the friction plate !

Except the clutch actuating Rm is on top of the gearbox under the battery tray

Im new to landrovers so im not sure were to look any pics or directions to the shaft, pmsl

I had absolutely no idea that was going to happen.........

I'll try again , you might need to lube the shaft if it's sticking , to make it easier ..... er ok , maybe just should stop now

It is going nowhere near the clutch plate unless you use gallons it is under the battery tray but again no way can you get at it from there with an oil can etc - if you remove the sumpguard from underneath you will see the clutch slave cylinder and operating shaft in the bellhousing not the gearbox - basically the shaft points forwards ..........

This is the shaft you need to lubricate to ease insertion.


Of the clutch pedal that is. :lol:

Thank you alibro for the picture thats a massive help. Ill be doing that on saturday iv gotta get it on the ramps to remove the vcu anyway. Ill take a look at that slave cylider bracket awell wile im at it. I was driving it earlyer and something just doesnt feel right its like im pulling a trailer or somthing that pluss the clutch issue it makes it a nightmare to drive

Ill try those things first and if no better ill take it to a garage.

Well i took the sump guard off today and had a look at the master cylinder bracket and sure enough the is a crack about 1 cm long in the left hand bottom corner. Not sure how to post pic on here otherwise id show you

Anyway i managed to get a new one from the local 4x4 breakers £15. Are the master cylinders easy enough to get off ? If so whats the best way to go about it.

Replaced my master cylinder bracket today with no problems and also removed my vc joint which was very easy i must say. On closer inspection it looks like the barings are nackered not sure about the vc joint tho. Is there a way to test them off the car ???

The car is driving great now.
