Hello everybody.... I hope you are all well.
I have a problem with my TD5 ...the other day I noticed in a very short space of time...a sort of clunking noise when I was pulling away at junctions...and not like a "land rover thing" ...a new not right clunk.
It got worse as I was driving home ...also slight loss of power / speed...If I remember rightly it started to smell hot also ...but cant remember...so I ended up pulling over and calling a friend.
He came along had a look underneath as I was lifting the clutch with the brake held firmly down obviously lol...
As soon as you lift the clutch it clunks....nothing else seems out of place under there...no joints broken or anything obvious ....
I was advised to drive home slowly...as my mate said it was transmission and to be cautious.
It drove home ...around three miles ish....fine ...changed gear fine and only clunked when initially pulling away...junctions etc.
Could I please ask the forum for their advice ....
Thank you
Daniel

Hello again...sorry for not replying sooner.
I haven't checked the handbrake...although I dont think its that I will see if it moves freely tomorrow.
I said the clutch to my mate because of the smell but he assured me not...
It drove fine on the short journey home...you wouldnt think there was anything wrong at all ...it was literally just the initial clutch lift to pull away that the clunk happens...
I have a mate of mine who said he would put it on his ramp and have a good look around before I jump in to getting a gearbox... its just one of those jobs Im not equiped to deal with on my own....very annoying.
I had a quick look underneath last night in the dark ....with a torch obviously lol...UJ's looked undamaged to me...looked all over for things that looked damaged...but I couldnt see anything.
Guess its going to cost me some money then ...I love Disco's but this is the last one now.
Thank you all

rubber donut on rear end of rear propshaft?
Had this sort of noise once on a D1, turned out to be loose pinion nut in the rear diff, but it was accompanied by a whine.

If it is just a clutch, which, let's face it is a consumable item, it's a bit harsh on the poor old Disco to make it the last one, it's as if changing brake pads would make it "the last one":(
Just saying!:)
