Anyone got any thought's on what is likely to be causing my 'clunk' sound every time I bring the clutch up and the crunch I'm getting going into second? It's a 300tdi 95.

you had your disco long? or is this something thats just started happening?
your clunk when you bring up the clutch could be slack in the transmission somewhere. this is taken up when it gets moving. usually attributed to the propshafts. have you been greasing your UJ's?
when did you last have a service that included replacing the gearbox fluids? i know this is around 24,000 on a defender could be worth flushing the main box and transfer box and refilling with new, you might notice a differennce.
