Hello

Just came across this site while trying to find the solution to a problem I have had for a while on my 1999 TDI Range Rover.

When getting into the car first thing in the morning the outside temp reads wrong -30 to -40, this causes the heater to come on full. After around 10 -15 mins the temperature gradually goes up until it reads the correct reading and the climate control then works as it should. It is also slightly intermittent.

I have taken the car to my local landrover garage and they have changed the outside temp sensor but this made no difference.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm a novice to Landrovers so please explain any fixs.

Thank you

Graham

Hiya Graham...Could possibly be a fault with your Heater Control Panel.

Beware though they are extremely expensive (£900 ish from Landrover) to replace although I managed to get my hands on one from ebay...Brand new all for £115.

lol i beleive the hevac cotrol panels from LR are about £85 + the vat they used to be about £200 but they got reduced,

you may have an external temp sensor fault

Hiya Guy...I hav`nt actually got the problem, I was answering someone else`s query.

Although I am not sure we are talking about the same item as only last year I was quoted £900 ish for a ATC ECU Control Panel.

I will be contacting Land Rover first thing tomorrow to confirm this and if they have been significantly reduced in price I will be asking why I was quoted so much!

Regards.

the control panel with the lcd display? beleive me they are definately not £900 you can buy a becm for less than that,

i sold a second hand one on ebay last year and i needed to know the price new so i knew what price to expect for it.
lol i need to read post a litte more carfull i see graham says hes had the sensor renewed, so yes it could easily be your control panel faulty

Hiya Guy...Thats Landrover for you!, Probably quoted for a completely different item.

The item was a LCD ATC ECU Control Panel.

I`ll check tomorrow just out of interest and let you know what they say.

All the best.

There is a software bug in the older HEVAC panels that can only be cured by fitting a later one.(Land Rover Technical Notice!) The normal symptom is a zero outside temperature plus the snowflake symbol when restarting with a hot engine, but it starts to work correctly after a few miles. My 2.5 DSE is a 1999 and it has the bug! Interesting to see that the cost of a panel is only £85 - I had expected them to be a lot more - I might invest in one. Only problems is you MIGHT need Testbook at the dealers to set the new panel up?:)

I exact same problem as described
Your cure is correct a new panel, plug it in and off you go, no need for test book.
