I have just bought my Freelander 2001 1.8S. Milage 60k and was MOT'D 26.3.2009, services 8k ago. Runs like a dream, a little lumpy on tickover at times but there is this annoying click coming from front left of the car when cold and on reverse. It seems to disappear after a while and doesn't affect the drive. Not technical at all , but any suggestions?:)

wot he sed - sale of goods act.....

bugger me - here we go again - copy and paste time....

you are still covered by the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002 - not fit for purpose or not of satisfactory quality - take it back and say it is unfit for purpose and you want it fixed FOC within *** days or your money back.

The obligations to provide goods of satisfactory quality are more or less the same as those stipulated under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (see BIF 142 A Guide to the Sale of Goods Act 1979). The Regulations also require traders to provide remedies where goods are not of satisfactory quality.

The effect of the Regulations is to create an automatic presumption, in favour of the consumer, that any defect in a product manifesting itself within six months is 'inherent'. This means that the defect was present at the time of sale. The burden of proof is on the trader to prove otherwise. The Regulations also provide a time limit of six years (five years in Scotland), during which period any claims for compensation may be submitted to a court.

I think you will find that the peeps wot sold yu the car are legally obliged to supply you with a working motor - unless yu bought it, knowing that it was defective.

Okay, said I'm not technical! 1 in 3 times when I reverse out of the drive 1 click from somewhere under the car, thought it was beacause I've been spoilt in Mercedes land for the last 3 years. It then goes and may appear at junctions when I start in the mornings for 5 mins when cold, again only 1 click nothjing when the engine is warm. I'm driving both Mway and B roads daily. ....What is this HG?? Is the car unsafe to drive or this an expensive fix? and as this was a private buy am I stuffed?

are yu sure its coming from the front - could be CV Joint?

if its coming from the back it is likely to be broken subframe mount or cracked chassis - both easy fixes, covered in the Q's and A's bit.

That will be your brake pads slotting back into position, it's another wait for it....................................... 'design fault'

Are you pressing the brake when it happens?

They all do it, esp after new pads have been fitted, takes a while for them to bed in, plus they wear more on one pad than the other.

'design fault'

How dare yu NI - besmirch the professional design team at Land-Rover  - I always understood from Dopeydawg that they were "design quirks" and "endearing parts of the Gay(oops) Freelander experience" ;) :bolt:

I am sure that I heard (on good authority) that the Freelander has only one "design fault" - summat to do with windows or doors, i think :p.

it's my conspiracy against LR design team, if there is any downfall in LR, it's nowt to do with me, the company is dead in the water.

What with LR and Jaguar getting a £300m handout to 'green' their emissions, the competition manufacturers are light years ahead, plus other manufacturers don't exist on subsistance.

Re : windows, I refer you to the above FL faults poll, window faults top the poll ;) :D

The pads have these issues in other makes of cars, mostly British models
