What year is yours? Clean air charging system seams to have all defenders and other pickups classed as cars Pre-2001. After that only factory county estate cars seem to be classed as cars. I’d be surprised if it’s easy to get changed, but maybe if you have all round windows and regulation seats and seatbelts fitted and inspected throughout….to match county estate spec?

2013 110 xs Station wagon seven seater with side windows. I believe from 2012 land rover classed all defenders as light commercial to reduce the road tax. Wondering if anybody else has managed to get DVLA to change to a passenger car?

All Defenders after 2011 were classed as "Commercial"
Good luck trying to get the DVLA to re-classify it.
Don't forget these older diesels are precisely the vehicles the govt wants rid of. The DVLA aren't going let you to re-classify it as a car so you can get around the fines.

I was in the same boat, had to cancel purchase of a lovely 26,000 mile 2014 110 XS and stick with my 2005 110 CSW which is classed as a car so exempt (for now, l don't doubt cars will be included before long and then l am stuffed as well)
