When I removed the sump plug from my Disco I 'missed' the bucket so got a really good squirt of oil all over the drive. I used newspaper to wipe up excess oil but there is still a big oily patch.

What is the best way to clean this. I have a pressure washer. I would prefer to use household cleaners rather than my expensive engine degreaser but just need a suggestion of what would work. It is fresh today so not absorbed.

fairy liquid works quite well

I once managed to leave the bucket full of oil under the landy, then a few days later set off... looked in the mirror and saw 6 litres of oil chasing me down the drive.

It will be difficult, the key is to get to it quickly before it soaks in, lots of fairey liquid, something caustic like oven or BBQ cleaner or even caustic soda (drain cleaner) to break down the oil. Scrub it with a brush and jetwash it.

What is your drive made of? I got oil all over a neighbours car bay when I used it when he was on holiday and managed to sprinkle cement all over it which then sort of set on the slabs and gave them back a normal grey look after lots and lots of washing.

Got an old car battery? Pour the acid out, works a treat, or see if you can get some muriatic acid used for cleaning concrete off brickwork, it works well.

Glycerol from biodiesel production works well but if you can't get any of that then just use caustic soda. You can get sacks of it from the local plumbing place or small tubs from the big diy sheds.

It adds character to the house. Proves that a landy lives there....
Give shell oil a bell I hear they know a bit about oil spills

Cat litter is good for mopping up the initial spill then use caustic soda (wear gloves and goggles, please) or any strong detergent.

bit expensive but hammerite thinners is excellent very good on concrete type cobles , draws all the oils out .
my pops had a disco for a good few years , you would never know he had now :D
