Thought i mention that after cleaning my afm with carb cleaner it has transformed my R/R, the difference is amazing.
il make sure i do it every 1000 miles i recon as it only took 5 mins!
but still what a difference!

Often thought of doing this - what's the procedure ?

remove afm, spray carb cleaner in the hole in the centre, leave to evaporate for a few mins then blow through to remove excess then refit, sit in drivers seat while driving and install big smile.

the last step will probably happen on its own due to the big difference in low rpm torque!

What, with an air line ? - don't want to bugger it !

Hey Guys, Sorry to be ignorant, I am an Industrial Chemist and not an Automotive Engineer! What or where, is the afm?? Would love to clean mine too! Great forum!

AirFlow Meter. Depending on type, it basically measures how much air is going through the throttle body so the ECU knows how much fuel to squirt amongst other things.

Glad you asked that Tonys....

All the questions you wanted to ask about rangies but were too embarased to ask

And the next one,,,,where is it please ?

its the bit thats held into the airfilter box with clips! on the far side where you cant see in pic is an electrical connector, unclip this then loosen the jubilee clip securing the afm to the hose and out it comes! simple!

in this pic you can see the mesh filter at the front of it! (ignore the aftermarket bracket n stuff)

Thanks for that tip Redrange I'll do that to mine this weekend:D although I have to admit I was with Tonys and I was trying to work out afm:confused: .........It all seems obvious now once explained lol

Hi Charlie - how's it going
A note for the future Charlie, my mate on here Iainargyll is breaking a 1992 3.9 rangie -engine and box are sold but if you are needing any other bits then let me or him know and I'm sure we could get them to the next "doo" at Lochgilphead ;)

well its nearly a week now since i cleaned it, its still running best it ever has ( kiss of death i know) and it pulls great with little throttle from stand still, and if traveling and put into sport and booted my word! it realy flies for a big un!
the de-cat and K+N seem to be really worth there cost, it sounds like it goig to eat whatever it passes, people look!

bear in mind i have a K+N and the afm dont like the oil from the filter too much, maybe this why i notice a big difference!!

and i have had a cunning plan to stop the trouble of hot starting/idling with underbonnet temps causing trouble due to filter! a little bit of inginuity and some fans and bobs ya uncle! was fun too.....

Don't you just love these cars!!!!!!!!!

There just beautiful in every way :D

The amount of stick I get sometimes from my wife as too which one I love the most between my Rangy or her is unbelievable:D :D

Although I do promise her its a tough call between both of them!!
