Hi, I recently bought a 1992 Classic 3.9 auto as a project. Its needs loads of welding as usual. But also has some electrical issues.
One of them is thd engine wont crank from the key. All the dash lights come on but no power to the trigger wire on the starter. I dont have any power to the inhibitor switch either . Ihave traced the wire from the ignition switch through the loom to the relay , then out of the relay into the engine bay. it goes to a round connector. Which isnt connected to anything , I cant see any other connector in the near vicinity it could have been plugged into either. The wire that goes to the inhibitor switch is also on this connector. So I bridged the two wires and it now cranks from the key and I have power at the inhibitor switch. So my question is can anyone identify where it should be plugged. I am guessing someone has removed some of the loom ? There are about 8 wires on the connector so I presume it's going to need to be reconnected with it's original wiring. If anyone has a 1992 classic and can shed some light on it that would be great. The connector is on the drivers side inner wing just in front of the abs unit. Thanks in advance Neil

The red wiring? Seems to have multiple cores (no idea if that is the right term...), at first glance that looks like an automotive spec cable. And yes, commercially available colors are mostly red, blue, green,... I never got hold of RRC spec colored cables. Also good to see that I am not the only one that has, let's say, dubious wiring.

Hi guys thanks for the interest. The red wire is a temporary measure just to join the wires so I can get the vehicle to crank from the key, and to prove that the circuit is ok. It is auto wire actually not domestic wire . The issue I have is identifying where this round plug goes as the other half of the connector is missing. I need someone who has a 1992 model to have s look under their bonnet if poss and take a picture for me . Thanks again.

What was supposed to fit in the round bracket? Could be a clue.;):D

I believe that was part of the aircon system but that's been removed. But I cant see the wires to the inhibitor switch and the ignition being part of the air con though.
