Classic Upper tail gate

Recently having problems with the upper tail gate.It has become very difficult to close.It has been fine since I have had it(about 6 months)

What can I do about it please?

Need to know more about your problem. Is it related to the lock, the tailgate alignment or rust?

It is the catch/(s) at left and right bottom,particularly the left one which keeps popping open.

As I say it has been no problem up until a couple of weeks ago,no visible problems.

The locks tend to have internal corrosion that prevents them from locking properly. Usually it is light corrosion.

If this is the problem, here is the way to go about it:

Remove the side locks, dip them in diesel fuel overnight, work them open-closed-open by hand a number of times, dip them in grease mixed with engine oil (mixed so that the goo can penetrate between internal parts by itself, while being thick enough for some of it to stay there) and repeat the manual work until you are satisfied that the problem is solved.

Since you are at it, clean and grease the rods and the handle mechanism.
