Got a classic 3.9 auto on gas with a starting fault.Turn the key and it runs for 10 seconds and cuts out.Turn the key and it starts again then cuts out.Fitted a new tank and pump, filter and replaced a leaking fuel pipe, still the same.Check if pump relay switch on while it runs.OK.Plenty of fuel at the engine when pipe removed.Fitted a air flow meter of a running engine and still the same.
ANY IDEAS?

if the fuel systems ok and the air is unrestricted that only leaves the ignition ? have you got a spark , and is it a healthy spark ? it maybe that the ignition amplifier has jossed it .
rick.

Thanks Rick I will try this. But still cant understand why it starts straight away then cuts out?
Cheers Barry

i know its wierd mate but thats the way it can go with them , just check the spark to confirm this is the problem
rick.
( i had one a long time ago on a rover sd1 3500 which acted exactly as you are describeing now )

After further investigation I found that some numpty had fitted a one way valve in the fuel line and it had semi collapsed. Runs great now thanks for the advice.

This might sound obvious but it is not the immobiliser is it. mine does this when i forget to turn it off.

Jon.

if its the immobilizer the car will not start in the first place. but the car starts and just dies after a while. anyway the problem is solved already
