I've managed to source a working Clarion HU and connected up that works fine, radio and CD. But I am only getting sound from the sub not the speakers. The little silver amp on top of the sub appears to be connected properly and I've tried the fuse.
I shall take the sub out and check all I can see.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

so the sub is getting a line in and is powered, thus emitting sound. the other speakers it seems are not. were the speakers working ok before the head unit change ?

That's about the extent of it. I can make sense of what is on the radio but its only the sub that is working.
My HU has been inoperative for a year or so now. Prior to that I kept getting a TUN ER98 error on the HU which apparently has something to do with the CD unit.
On occasions before I changed the HU I got a single bass thump just going along.
When it all worked it was fine but its been a while.
I should also add that the whole interior has been out to do lots of bodywork last year so it could be anything anywhere!!

I dont know about on your model, but on the classic i have there are no in build amplifiers on the speakers. IE they are line powered from the head unit. So either it can only be duff speakers, loss of connection between the head unit and the speakers or a faulty speaker output (ie head unit problem).

the speaker is essentially a coil around a magnet. if the coil has corroded up the speaker is done. i'd be suprised that all 4 have gone together. the wiring takes different routes, the rear headlining speakers and the doors, so unlikely that the front and rear routes (remember the front go through the door frame) has been damaged. so first off check the speaker connections at the back of the head unit, or try another head unit and check to see if the speakers actually work.

I'm fairly certain there are no speaker pickups from the HU (94 LSE softdash), it all comes from the sub and amp. Its what makes putting an aftermarket HU in that much more difficult. I think I have 10 speakers or so all together.
There must be a missing connection or broken wire. I suppose the amp could be broken but its not that likely.
Thanks, I'll have another poke about.

No problem, thanks for trying. Damn thing won't work at all now! Time to get the professionals in I think.

Found the (rather obvious) problem. It turns out I have the wrong head set. Mine is a pu 9844a and the new one is a 9836a. They look the same, have the same buttons and LR logo but of the 3 sockets in the back only 2 have pins on the 36. So I assume the speakers are not connected, or rather the connection to the amp isn't there.
Bugger. Back to square one!
