Hello

I noticed this was a UK forum I’m so hoped it was a good place to ask my question - The family are wanting a Defender 90 for dog walks and a bit of adventure. Can anyone recommend reputable dealer / specialist as i don’t want to buy something like this privately - we live in Yorkshire, but travelling is okay (we are looking at spending £15k or less).

It’s also likely it will need to live outside so i assume regular underside protection and a quality cover will suffice - a soft top is top of the list so I know we are making life difficult for ourselves!!

Thank you

Do you own research on Land Rover specialists, believe it or not it has been known for sellers to tart them up and make them shiny while the chassis is full of rust.
Also make sure the id is matching the log book as Defenders tend to get stolen on a regular basis.
Feel free to post up links and photos for anything you are interested in, plenty of opinions on here, some are even helpful. 🤔

soft tops are very not common on the defenders and because of that command a price premium. However you can buy all the parts to convert a standard one into a soft top and it is just nuts and bolts to do the conversions so even a beginner (no offense intended, I do not know your level of mechanical knowledge) would be able to do the job. this would allow you to buy the best condition base vehicle you can and then convert to be what you want at a later date. I know it is a cliché, but the perfect defender is built not bought because everyone has a different idea of what perfect is for them.

Underside protection is required wherever it lives as as must, but again is easy, all be it messy to apply yourself. It is also not that expansive to diy even if you have to buy the tools as well. A cover would certainly help but my series soft-top which has a proper canvas rather than modern plastic coated roof lives outside without a cover. I have just replaced the roof on it and the old one lasted 8 years with no treatment in all weathers.
