Need some advice here guys! Bought my defender from walton motors in January nice enough during the sale ect love the vehicle very good just what I wanted. Last week something failed in the transfer box it's under warranty so I contacted them but they keep stalling on giving me the details to get it fixed! What do I do?

Luke

I know them, I was going to buy a 90 from them a few years back but were asking stupid money. Bulkhead was rotten, crossmember was rotten and it was only a 2.5n/a was asking 4.5k for it. Said if I baught it they would do all the work on it and put an mot on it..

I told them to go figure and left..
They arnt a "dogey" company just not how I would run it. Give them a visit and if they refuse to do anything take it to court and warn them on this they may change their minds..

Yes I will be visiting them tomorrow to put some pressure on them! Hopefully they will get it sorted I cannot see why they are stalling it's under warranty what's the problem!

Yeah that's true! They have finally emailed me back but still not sorted they have said they need to talk to there rep some sort of confusion or something!

More rubbish from them. It's the guys own company so they don't have any reps it ain't a multi national company
Only person he would be wanting to contact is the person whom sold them it..

Don't let it drag on, get a firm commitment to repair it, or take it to Trading Standards or Small Claims Court.

SCC is online now, costs on a sliding scale but very useful for concentrating the minds of motor traders.

I thought it didn't sound right when he said that! I'm paying them a visit tomorrow to get this sorted!

Peter, thanks for that what information would I need to go to the trading standards?

Luke

Take the props off, get it towed down there and plonk it outside and tell them to call you when its fixed.

Keep pestering them or they will just think you will go away. Give them a deadline to get a move on, tell um they have a week until you start involving trading standards.

Read the thread that was posted above, it has some good advice.

I have had dealings with them in the past, that resulted in me returning a 90 to them and getting a full refund, keep pushing them and make sure you spk to Charles senior, he is the owner and the only decision maker.

Thanks for that! I have read through that post I will try ringing again tomorrow if I do not get anywhere I may just mention the trading standards!

they have legal obligation to sort it

Luke

Bill of sale, mileages at time of sale and now, statement re suitability of vehicle for continued use, plus there should be a warranty document in your possession, stating terms, what is covered etc etc.

They can also give help and advice if it is at a stage where they cannot get involved.

Peter

Chances are the warranty company won't cover any claims in the first 3 or 6 months because it's the dealers responsibility which could be why they are trying to mug you off.

Tell them (in writing) they have 7 days to either sort out the problem or agree a timetable for the repairs, including a courtesy vehicle while yours is repaired or you will reject the vehicle under the Sale of Goods Act. This should concentrate their minds a bit.

Forget the warranty company, your claim is with the dealer. The warranty is more for his benefit than yours.

Thanks I see that would make sense why they are stalling it's only a 12month warranty I've had the vehicle nearly 2 months now.

Did this get sorted? I'm having a similar problem with Walton Motors in Cranleigh. They are proving to be a right nightmare and I think within a couple of weeks I will be pursuing the legal route through the Small Claims Court. Impossible to get hold of, hollow promises etc. I'm hoping they come right in the end but I'm not to sure that's where it's heading.
