classic axels on a series 2a

HI handie landie people, i've just got a pair of completete rover classic axels (1972) to go about fitting them to my 2a (1971) need to know how's best to go at it i've heard there wider than standard? and that the prolem of articulation can be over come by a spring over axel conversion? and finally how the hell do i fit servo brakes to get the begger to stop???:rolly:

Erm RR axles are coil sprung and series are leaf sprung so first you need to cut away all the coil spring mounts & gubbins and weld new series leaf gubbins on. Do a SPOA on a series and chances are that you'll spend a lot of time copying ya smiley.

apart from the from the change of hangers n stuff thats covered. in the SPOA case its a no no then so its off with the arches and on with eyelids???? do you know anything about abouts servos good enough for this disk conversion???
 
You will find that the steering arms are different. The track bar (the one behind the axle) on the RR goes thru the space occupied by the leaf springs.

Sell them on an get a new Series diff. It will be a whole lot easier.

easier to get a series diff be seriouse it was easier to up rate to a classic or disco diff for half the the price or 1/8 in this case. and its quiter and better on the road.

my main problem is the stopping when playing off road. the drums dont like the rough play, so modification and fabrication is the only way i can see????????

I've just re-read that bit.......it wasn't apparent to me that you already had RR diffs in the axles.

I'll admit that drums brakes take more maintenance and don't like prolonged dunking in water or mud; I used to trial a Series LR and I know what the brakes can be like. Popping the drums off and a quick wire brush is often all that is needed.

To be honest I think you are eventually going to talk yourself into a 90 or cheap early RRC :)

would there be much of an improvement just fitting a servo to the brakes???? the problem i've got is finding out shaft lengths of the rr classic and the series any ideas where i could find these?????:confused:
