Classic 200 tdi battery light on

Battery light came on while driving. Checked alternator and battery and both showing more than 14 v, but when checking feed from alternator to the car, presumably battery light, shows less than 8v. Is this normal?

Maybe a bad connection or earth on alternator. Or regulator duff, normally lamp goes out as earth path is blocked when alternator starts to generate current.

Thanks, I'll check the earth. Presume if its the regulator it means a new alternator?

You can replace the regulator, it's just as likely to be the brushes. You can get a complete overhaul kit for not a lot of cash.
