Disco 2 Citizen Band Radio engine noise

Onboard radio works fine no interfearence I did as you say think maybe tap into that but I really don't think it's power related, Yes I was thinking the same try a magmount and see what I get, I've just send my mate message to see if her has one I can try

Hate to say it but I think it might just be the length of the cable, or maybe somefink to do with how it was soldered on to the fittings. Can you check the resistance of the soldered joints? with just a MM set to resistance?
Not saying you can't solder but I have made up quite a few looms and sometimes had a surprise when checking the joints.
Didn't you say the coax made up from two bits was OK? Or do you no longer have it fitted with connectors?
Racking my brain now!
 
Update on the CB wow’s, as it has turned out my problem was location of the aerial, my thinking was there’s a gap between the spare wheel and the back door enough to use the wheel bracket to bolt the aerial base onto thus doing a tidy job, fed the coax through the door all good but it appears although the aerial was ¾ clear of the wheel and the door still not enough, obviously cb was radiating power which was being collected between wheel and door giving me bad SWR and engine noise, put aerial onto a magmount and just popped it on roof all ok, so now got to decide on another type bracket, there are side fitting brackets which is probably what I will go for as gutter mounts in the past have not lasted that well and also took quite a beating being high up, any CB chaps with idea or input welcome.

I started way back in the 70s on the radio when all we had was imported am radios, it was good fun and it took off being new, that is until the advent of the mobile phone and also the legality of the FM band which gave birth to the cb idiots, I kept going for a few years but got fed up with the constant idiots on the air waves as did allot of the good CB users and it sort of died the death, I did fire the radio up a few times over the years but only on the side bands and am away from the idiots, however over the past few years and since the pandemic the CB has picked up again especially on the sidebands currently the skip is running and will continue to run for the next few years at a high, which means being able to talk to other radio enthusiasts around the world, so after a long time not using the radio and forgetting allot I used to know I dragged it out of hiding and decided this time it has to be installed properly no more hanging wires, half screwed in brackets just any old where, hence the cock up with my location of aerial, I claim it’s due to age not general stupidity, I’ve had to not only install the radio but try to wake up that part of my brain which stores sense.

Just glad you got it sorted!:):):)
with age comes experience so they say, my problem, being 67 is coping with all the electronics on new cars, having been brought up on distributors and carburettors!;)

snap same age electronics in vehicles are a nightmare I was a mechanic but retired now, they’re very few what you can call a mechanics anymore many semi skilled as they like to put it, Halfords men semi skilled, I took a V6 into Halfords for a tune as one of their good deals, mate when I went to pick the car up it was running all over the place, I said to the workshop manager who did my car is he qualified or an apprentice no he said all our mechanics are semi skilled, so in other words they are not mechanics at all just computer jockeys , lend me a screw driver I tune it myself and I did by ear needless to say I paid nothing.

Yes exactly the manager was so matter of fact about it; I left there really fed up with whole experience and disappointed with the managers attitude, never ever would any customer of mine have been left feeling like that, and if they had and complained the manager would have been given his marching orders.
