I recently purchased a Defender 90 without air conditionning, I would now like to have one installed. I've seen some from a company called Diavia and heard of one from a company called Smith. Can anyone advise whats the best aftermarket ac unit for a Defender?
Also, if I install the AC unit will I have to relocate the speakers or are there some units that allow you to keep the speakers in the original position?
Finally, can somebody tell me where to get more info on the Smith unit?
Thanks
Francesco

My farther has a TD5 with air con, and its a sreious waste of space when your not using it, the front passangers foot well is consumed by it. Id blame poor desighn, part of it is slaped on the front of the car, the rest is wedged in the foot well, its not like theres a lack of space under the bonnet. Never the less, if your going to use it...

i've a td5 with rear air con, actually 99% of all defenders in singapore have this 'singapore factory unit'. it's mounted up above the rear door so it doesn't take up any one's leg room. except you need to watch yr head when you jump in out the back door. it's not that bad as it's abt the height just above the door.

the bad thing, if you carry load stacked up to the roof then you can't feel the air con.

it should be a nippon denso unit, 2200btu system. 4 speed (3 speed on mine, older unit), can be 5 speed if you have extra cash. there's a SIII CSW with the 5 speed one. aircond radiator is mounted infront of your intercooler, just behind the plastic grill (good place to get damaged if you off road a lot, imagine on giant branch poking into it)

Can you please share some photos of the installation at the rear of your D90? Any contacts will be highly appreciated
