Heres one for you chaps!.
It was Tuesday when I put £20 worth of fuel in the old git and went off to Derby and back approximately a 20 mile round trip. The next day I started off for work and I noticed that on a downward run with me clog off the go pedal the old git was backfiring like a bastard also there was no tickover to speak of (very lumpy and stalling).

Today I have mostly been changin'
Coil, Points, Condensor, Rotor arm, Plug leads and the Low Tension wire. Plugs and Dizzy cap were OK.

Fired the Landy up and no change, still lumpy and farting like a Bastard on deceleration. I then fetched the air screw on the weber out by 2 full turns and we have a tickover but she still backfires on deceleration but not as bad as before.

This brings me back to the £20 worth of fuel, could it be dodgey or contaminated?. I've been burning it off and theres less than half a tank now so it aint worth dumping. Just fill on top from another station me thinks.

What do you think chaps ?????????????.

could well be.. i once had a car that wouldn't run on shellfrom the local garage but was ok on bp. i went through all the usual **** till a mate told me about the problemhe had wid de petrol from one garage. i never found out if it was a duff tanker load they got or just plain **** in their tanks

Cheers Slob, I'm gonna try fresh fuel first. Only other thing I can think of is maybe the dizzy has "crabbed" round a little.

:eek: After changing ignition parts, dumping suspect fuel for fresh and after fannying about all afternoon with a timing strobe and static timing methods my buddy and I have come to the conclusion that the Dizzy has gone "Tits up". I am now looking for peoples opinions regarding Lucas and Ducellier models.
A few years back I couldn't find a Lucas for love nor money and now after a quick search I find that they are now available, although I suspect that these are probably a reproduction of some description.
So, has anyone recently fitted a Lucas type and is it satisfactory?.

spooky - mine has developed similar fault

started backfiring like a t**t a couple of days ago - so did the same ie points , coil , LT lead , condensor , leads - now it won't rev under load so have to try and avoid hills etc - tho I think my problem may be more to do with carb now , as it improves if I grab a handfull of choke
ps - i don't suppose it helps that its supposed to be a 6 cylinder , but only has 5 working :p
 
ahhh after 20 odd years as a mechanic I've obviously learnt nowt - stripped carb down , cleaned it out , put it back on and it was even worse - buggeritt - so off it came again :-( - some prat had only put the emulsion tube back in upside down ( ahhhhh ok i admit it was me ) - - put it back on and its now fine - for a 5 cylinder landy that is

I've now obtained a new dizzy from Paddock, gonna fit it tomorrow weather permitting. The manufacturer is Autoera and it's a very good likeness of the Lucas 45D4. Right price too.

Ive got to agree with Yella Disco about the supermarket fuel. Years back I had a car that would not tick over if filled from Safeways. It was only occasionally I filled there and took a little time to work out that was the problem. When I filled up at a Shell garage yhere was no tick over problems

Dunno my owd mucker, I had a severe sense of humour faliure way before trying that. I will get round to the job when I see a Landy stood there rather than the sniggering heap of **** that I see at the moment !!!.
