I have attached a brake light switch to my choke cable but it stays on when the choke is pushed in. It appears that the lump/piece attached to the cable that should activate the switch stops short. Does this mean I will have to buy another choke cable or is it possible to fix the problem ?

Isn't the switch just clamped to cable if so try moving it along may need to shorten the outer casing on the cable to suit.
Have you tried loosening the clamp at the carb end to check if switch then works?

Choke warning lights!? Whatever next?? I can't keep up with all these mod-cons
Next you'll be telling me about a warning light that tells me its misfiring

Hi Blackburn - as you say the switch is clamped to the cable on the housing. But the housing appears to be fixed, or crimped onto the cable outer casing. There are two locating lugs on the underside of the switch which fits in the corresponding holes in the housing. I am not sure if the housing can be moved along the casing without causing any damage. The activating lug on the cable stops before the switch, i.e. on the bulk head side. This means the housing would have to move upwards about 1/4 inch.

I didn’t want to cut the outer casing if I can’t reconnect the housing to it higher up the cable.

Hope that makes sense.

I can't believe it's a month ago that I started this thread but I have finally sorted out the issue with the cable - with a hacksaw!.

I tried adjusting the cable as suggested but nothing changed and I have been trying to decided whether to buy another cable. However today I thought I would cut 2mm off the cable housing at the ignition switch end allowing the knob to be pushed in further. This in turn moved the choke light switch activating lug on the cable into position, (see photo's). It was a bit drastic but it worked and saved me around £27 for a new cable.
