Got a choice of cb radios in the garage, found a box with two a.m. sets and two f.m. sets in it from years ago when I had one in me lorry/truck/wagon/rig .
Dont know if a.m. is still illegal or if anyone as still got ther ears on, might put em both in see what I can pick up.....:D

I suppose everyone uses fm these days but it would be very private on am I'm thinking with only me on it

pretty sure the AM ones aren't used/legal any more, the 'standard' CB ones are FM, but you still (technically) need a licence for one.

am has always been illegal but dont expect you'll find anyone on there , uk legal fm is not a lot better nobody much uses it the odd truckers and a few of us off-roaders
p.s. pretty sure you dont need a licence (done away with )

Licence was done away with in 2006.

I am about to install at 80 chan unit into the 90 with a short whip, CharlesY just got a 10m aerial which he is in the process of installing.

If you look for trucks with whips on them you will probably get them on 19, which is the breaker band (people sit on it now and talk which is a little anoying).

If anyone needs any connections and aerial wire give me a PM I have about 400m of the stuff... based on you needing about 2m a vehicle thats a fair few CB's that could be installed.

i need some advise on CBs what would be a good unit for me landy?? i need cheap fairly robust and aerials which is bestest mega long whip or lil ones????

i know not of the ways of the cb, all i can remember is ch9 is emergency and 19 is calling

Midland sets best all rounders. Dont buy second hand (very hard to fix) splash out a hundred quid and you will get complete kit inc ariel. Longer the arial the better.

Get a Midland 38 - short whip will do, put a long whip on if you want but it will smack stuff all the time.

I think a short for normal day to day use and a long for offroading is a good idea.
