Morning,

I noticed that the chirping from the alt/waterpump etc belt had got a bit louder yesterdar so looked on here and thought I'd give the penny trick a go. Before I did though I thought id give it a squirt of belt dressing as I had some in the shed..fabbo..silence.

Silent until I drove out to take the dogs for a walk and it was back again, out came the dressing and I gave it a squirt some of which went onto the water pump... yeah gods it was like I'd stabbed the ol' disco..it screached like hell. I guess I need a new water pump ? they dont look difficult to change but I wondered if anyony had any time saving tips..cheers

Hi, just put a new belt on..5 min job...silence

was about due as the old one was showing cracks.

i put new belts on my 300tdi disco to only have them squeal n squeak like a good un :violin:
knew it was belts due to belt dressing and talcum powder giving tempary silence
cure was indeed the PENNY TRICK worked for me
costs a penny and only a two minute job
found out talc good for stopping shoes creaking when i dropped it,wonder if it will stop r lass rattling when i give her her empty talc back coverd in oil

To stop this kind ov squeeking is also jus a 1 minute job.

Take the missus firmly by the shoulders, an lift up slightly.
Get ya face nice an close to ers, then give shoulders a firm shake, at the same time screaming 'SHUT IT' making sure to cover er face in spit and the bits left in ya gob from last nites lamb boona.
Release er shoulders back to normal posistion, and walk off.

Shouldn't ear anymore from it, jobs a goodun. :brushteeth:

I had a squeak/chirping sound from the area around the belt. I tried some belt dressing and it became even worse. I was almost certain it was the water pump bearing however I could not really hear any wear when I put a screw driver to the housing and listened to the shaft turning. After reading this thread I applied some talc to the belt as an attempt to remove any other possibilities and it worked, beautiful silence. I have driven over 500km since and not a peep.

My question is really to find out what exactly has the talc done to cure this noise? Is it creating some form of cushioning effect between belt and pulleys......I am really not certain what it has done but I am very happy for the silence. Can anybody share ther insight with me......

Please correct me but the penny trick dosnt work on TD5's does it?, I have a chirp/squeak and i think its a bearing or water pump gone will try the talc trick though.
