Chipping my P38

I fitted a chip from East Coast racing to my 2.5dse some years ago, much torquier and refined drive, less gear changing and quieter! Consumption better 28 to 32mpg but I am rural. Go for it!

it's a great bit of kit, fitted in minutes and transforms the p38 into a reasonably quick machine, plus the mpg is slightly improved as well.;)

These boxes make the MPG worse, not better. They go between the ecu and the injector pump and give it more fuel. The onboard computer thinks it's getting the right numbers from the ecu, but it isn't..

The BECM (onboard computer) does get the correct figures from the ECU, because the box fits between the feedback loop of the injector pump and the ECU, the box does not alter fuelling directly, it only convinces the ECU to give out more fuel.

I bought a 'Python' tuning box from germany for my 96 DSE, made it go like stink, OR, if driven the same, made better mpg, HOWEVER, it smoked on the over-run, & I was a bit concerned, so I've removed it!!
Miss the 'omph' though!! (I might whack it back on again)!!

I went for the powerbox 2 from Rimmer Brothers in the end as I can Move it to another vehicle or sell it on at a later date. JUst fitted it and am really pleased with the increase in performance.

Don't get all confused by all the comments.

Just get a PSI Powerbox fitted.

Had mine for over 6 months, no problems, no black smoke, fuel is around 28mpg and it goes well considering how heavy it is.

Yes, you can remove the ECU and have a chip installed, but its not worth the hassle. PSI and a chip are more or less going to be the same in the end.

My Dads has this fitted, although we are having some problems now, not because of the box directly, but because we dont have the section of loom that was removed when it was fitted. Have a look at my other post.
