Hello landy owners, I’m afraid I’m after some help and advise again (one day I hope to be in a position to give and not take from the forum)
My question is this….

My old 300TDI has failed the mot (welding), not as problem as I’ve been and bought a TD5. I had private plates on the old 300TDI and want to get them changed over to the TD5 - Does the 300TDI need a valid MOT in order to exchanged the registration?

Many thanks,

John.

Be careful here ,i have studied cherished plates alot recently and one thing i found is how many numbers cannot be transferred to a newer vehicle ,dont know why though so check with dvla before you do anything .

I’ll pop into the Worcester office tomorrow and have a chat. I know you cant transfer a younger looking plate onto an older vehicle as it gives the impression of the vehicle being younger than its true years.

I cant for the life of me understand why a vehicle needs to be MOT’d in order to transfer the reg from that to another (surely the DVLA would just issue a new V5 with a new registration number)???

Oh-well, guess I’ll find out for sure tomorrow….

This info taken from Personalised Number Plates

To transfer a vehicle registration number, it is necessary for the car from which it is taken and the car to which it is transferred to have current road tax and MOT

Just a quick up-date - this is incorrect, just had mine done, moved the reg from the 300TDI (no MOT) to the TD5 (with MOT) no problem :)
