My Defender 90 came with factory chequer plate on the wing tops (silver) and I would like to put the same style on the sills. Land Rover are quoting £280 for supply only which is a lot!!

Does anyone know an alternative supplier that will match the pattern?

Chequer plate is a profanity on here. People regard it as bling but its your Landy so do what you want with it. Don't know where you get the stuff.

I've got a set of chequerplate side sills that I took off me 90 the day I took collection of it. if you want them there yours and for a damn sight less than the main stealer..

Chequer plate on the sill has a simple function - it stops the paint getting worn away by peoples boots catching it as they get in and out!

Anyhow, more to the point, do bling-lovers buy Defenders??? I always thought they rolled around in RR sports with 22 inch alloys!

Ahput CP sills on mine cos my original sills were pretty mangled. If ye try a search on the likes of paddocks, ebay etc you'll find there are plenty about, might not be OEM but who cares when they're a lot cheaper;) :D

if you think that "blingers " only chose range rovers etc, you need to open your eyes. The number of defenders that are being bought as chelsea tractors is growing and growing , the amount of aluminium that is being riveted to them for no real reason is huge. If its not functional then its bling. yesterday saw black 110dc with chrome rims and a winch , with enough polished ali to halve its payload

Yes, more defenders are being used as 'Chelsea tractors' but what's wrong with that? People are free to buy whatever they like and accessorise however they like and it also results in a lot of decent condition, hardly run in used Defenders out there for future off road work etc. I have a 110 DC - no 'bling' and is used for work purposes but that makes me no more or less a worthy owner of a Defender. Each to their own.

Anyway, if chequer plate is such a dirty word on here perhaps the moderators should check out their logo...I do believe that's ali chequer plate on that there Defender!! :)

hi hope this helps 3mm thick plate from ali suppliers is £47 a sheet buy an angle grinder to cut it with and plate the whole car to your hearts content
cheers

Dear Madam Bucket,
one does me a serious injustice, a. Am not tight onl meant to cover postin costs, and b. cant help being a bastid coz i'm Cornish and c. now youv'e shouted at me am going to have to go back into therepy in the local

i bought my checker plate kit off of ebay,it hid some nasty scuffs on the sills and a dent on the wings, it looks good and is functional as i sometime need to stand on my wings to fix timber and ladders to my roof rack

im new to landrover ownership and have bought a 2005 90 but im amazed at the amount of rusty bolts rods etc, is it worth me getting the underside undersealed or did landrover suss out they rot without adequate protection and do something about it on a 05 plate

i dont think that you can start to WAXOIL a landrover to early, i cant think why they dont do this in the factory as they charge so bloody much for then in the first place.

Re chequer plate my view is its you machine and you can do whatever you want to it as its you who will have to live with it at the end of the day.;)

I have chequer plate on my wings but that's only cos I walk about all over my landrover. I've painted over it anyway. I like to sit on the roof when it's sunny.
Putting it on your sills is just pointless. Actually the sills themselves are just pointless. My sills have got chequer plate on them from the previous owner, but they're so bent and mangled from grounding out and rock climbing they just look a mess.
If you wanna make your motor look good just take the sills off altogether. Also gives the illusion of more ground clearance so saves you splashing out on the lift kit and big alloys that I'm sure will be coming next. You tart.
