Great green Hibernia .
On the next dry day I will get under and very carefully inspect my brake line for any signs of damage or corrosion .

Yesterday on the way out of the city approaching a roundabout at the end of a 100kmh dual carriageway and some ***t in an astra estate right up my arse . I got to the roundabout doing a good 50mph and intended not touching the brakes . A van that looked as if it was going to take the exit before mine, kept moving my way . That was fine I touched the brakes not much stopping then ABS crunch then nothing much . luckily no impact and maybe no one noticed what had just happened inside my motor .

I wasn't sure if I'd blown a hole in a pipe or a fuse for the abs . Pulled in a few milles down the road and got under for a look in the misty drizzle . I couldn't see any leak but knew I had to go back to hers or leave it there on the side of the road . I drove a back road leaving big spaces between cars in front and trying not to need brakes .

When I got home I found fluid ****ing from the pipe in the O/S rear wheel arch . I rang around looking for a place that makes up new pipes . The first place I rang reckoned noone in Cork makes them up and I couldn't find anything in yellow pages . I eventually found a motor factors that makes them up . Comes off a coil feed it from the engine bay and pass the other end and bolt it up on one end and bend carefully and bolt the other end .

As soon as it dries up out there I will get under and check and make up some new pipes if necessary . I need to buy a flaring tool from tinternet or local motor factors .

Any recommendations for the flaring tool ?

I hope this posts ok . There is war here trying to get monsters to do some homework .:blabla::blabla::blabla:

that's for stainless lines. get a price from factors to make one for you.

shoulda quoted that maybe.

I get good results with this but not man enough for steel pipes really:)

Brake Pipe Flaring Tool | Frost Auto Restoration Techniques
I might just buy that from my local factors . They have that same kit for €44.95 ex vat .

I did get one made up yesterday €30 plus another tenner for a new flex hose because they could not be seperated .

Where do you buy the pipe ?
Do you buy the pipe from the motor factors as and when you need it or do you invest in one long coil ?

Thanks .

Bought a coil years ago and still using that, you can almost always reuse the ends but I have a selection that I salvaged from old cars and keep them in my 'brake box' box just in case:)

I got a story about the same problem .

It was the London to Brighton run , I was just heading down the steep hill into the start car park grounds ready for my trip ahead .

I press the brakes and there were no brakes , well almost .
I has to swerve and just miss a brand new merc.

With the use of the hand brake and the man waving me in to the grounds, wondering what the Heck is this bloke doing , that's me :)

I slowly managed to get close enough to talk, I explained what had happened.

Once in the grounds I eagerly phoned the AA, I eventually got home fixed the long brake pipe that runs along the chassis I've always kept and had the kit phew.

And still made it to Brighton as I live in w Sussex to wasn't to far.

I had had a mot two months earlier grrr

So back to the op always check your brake pipes!

Once you've fitted your new pipes, give them a wipe over with a greasy rag - it'll help them last :D

you should not paint them or cover them with underseal - I think it's something to do with the MOT checking 'em ...

I had my NCT Irish MOT last week and the brakes passed , but I do remember seeing that the rear o/s brake was close to the fail % . If I knew then what I know now I would have had a good check see what might be wrong .

Nice advice on the oily rag ,as for mot tester  . I could hear techno thump thumping from the other side of the glass in the test centre and I'm sure it was from my motor . My 16gb memory stick has about 70 albums on it and its on shuffle . Lots of smashing pumpkins got about 10 of their albums .

I got my 14yr old to pump the brakes while i bled them . He wanted to get back to whatever he was doing on his puter. I left them in a scary condition and today drove many miles with the brake pedal non responsive untill it gets half way down , then lots of bite .

I want to wait till it dries up before I bleed the whole system . Very damp atm .
