Check this on your landy!!

Just thought it might be worth sharing my near miss with my defender so you can check yours out! Few weeks ago on my fathers defender, while driving out a track, the rear tie rod mount ripped off the axle resuting in a snapped propshaft and an axle left at a funny angle! Exactly a week later while towing a plant trailer the same thing happened to mine, this time both brackets gave way with no warning, luckily the road was quiet or it would have been really nasty, the axle disapeared up under the arches, went off the road and back on again before I knew what had happened! I checked the brackets not long ago and they looked ok but I would recommend everyone has a good look at theirs and dont take any chances, if they look a bit poorly, change them. The parts were only 6 quid each and I have done both vehicles now, quite easy to do, couple of hours max, need a welder of course but it could save a real disaster!!

This happened to me on my disco the other day, rear wheel steering is no fun when you're not in control! I got the heavy duty ones from yrm 25 quid for them both delivered to the door

yup, same here, excellent quality parts 7 quid each plus p&p, vat etc, did your prop get damaged?

Yeah, but the ujs were shaged anyway. Yours in a bad way?

Kind of, on my fathers it snapped the uj, on mine it broke the flange!

Can I confirm, do you mean the panhard rod? The rod that goes from the AXLE to the CHASSIS?

yup, doughnut bush thing at the chassis end and a normal bush at the axle end, I will post some pics later as I an putting a spring mount on the chassis right now and have taken a few, the tie rod bracket is in some of them i think

Pictures would be good. Tie rod is the steering rod that links the two hubs.
