cheapest hp for RR Classic 3.9Efi

I have upgraded my diffs, brakes and suspension already, leaving the
engine the last bit to do (for safety reasons). I've been thrashing the
hell out of my 3.9 LPG for the past two years and still haven't managed
to break it. But now I'm bored and have around £6,500 in the kitty.

So, here's my engine choices:

(1) Rpi 4.6 LPG: 280cu in and 280 bhp. Cost: £6,500 inc VAT

(2) Chevy V8 LPG: 350 cu in and 350 bhp. Cost: I don't know

Can you help me make a decision based on value-for-money?
I'd like to hear comments from Chevy choosers as well as hot Rover
fans.

Many thanks in advance.

Rover every time in a RRC - the Chevy is too heavy and leaves the
vehicle unbalanced.

As for (1), take their quoted bhp with a BIG pinch of salt, more likely to
be around 250ish tops. I have dyno graphs for a 4.7 with a hot cam, proper
tuned headers, stage 2 heads and re-mapped efi system.... 252bhp, 295lb/ft.
option (2) will most likely break the gearbox!! (ZF4HP22 rangie/disco auto
can handle 300lb'ft - just! Not sure of manual box max torque.)
Badger.

Thanks. I haven't been on for over 18 months. Defected from the Porsche
google group, but now finding the RR more of a philosophical thing.

Anyway, I'm rambling. It seems that both will cost the same. Maybe when
I blow up my existing one I'll just get another 3.9 engine out of ebay
for £1,000-1600-ish.

Problem with spending £6500 on a car worth a grand is that it makes me
feel stupid.

I suppose all those stories of "stump-pulling, gut-wrenching torque"
should be left to the magazines.

Quite a bit can be done without spending such silly money - the block can be
bored out and top hat liners fitted - use the standard heads - a different
cam etc will make all the difference.
