Good morning to you all. Can anyone recomed a good firm near Tunbridge wells to undertake some welding repairs the rear chassis on my Defender. The cross member is sound but ehr section of chassis between the rear spring mount and cross member has a number of holes in it. I dont realy want to replace the entire cross member and desperalely need to find a reliable garage/welder to repair what I have.
Any thoughts?

I had a guy out nead Chelmsford (quite a way from you, who put a new X member on mine for just over £300 inclusing all new xmember - with extensions(brit part mind you), choped out the old one, welded in the new one and painted it, and put all the electrics back for me.

The rear xmember with extensions bit may well replace the bits where you have holes as well and for that price how can you go wrong.

Should have his number somewhere - however the paint did come off after 6 months - birtpart:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: sh*t but a pot of smoothrite soon sorted that.

Britpart are complete and utter rubbish - just do a search on here.

They are known as sh**part, I would not use ANYTHING britpart on any of my landrovers, I would rather be without that fit their stuff.

More often than not mechanical compenents simply fail or last about 1000 miles, by the time you buy another one you would already have been cheaper getting the good one in the first place.

Other things like gaskets are made of cheese or butter, steel stuff they make often needs modification to make it fit and will be made of the thinnest stuff going (not even sure it's steel sometimes).

I know some people cannot afford the more expensive parts, but the poor buggers then end up with more problems and it's just not worth it.

I'm well aware of how **** brit part are, but it is infact quite a nice lump of metal on the back (apart from the single layer of paint it had on to start with)

I'm never fitting any mechanical parts they sell as i would like to continue for more that 10miles before breaking down again.

However paddocks did sell me a reversing light, that when it turned up was in a brit part box, that has lasted over 1000miles now, but i guess most of that was going forward, so i guess this is designed to pack up in 1000miles going backwards :)
