Like it says, can anyone please give me a name of a reputable company in Scotland to replace chassis on my defender.
Age is starting to show its effects.....
and the defender's beginning to show it too. ☺
While on the subject of chassis' does anyone know anywhere I could find a non galvanised one?
Thanks all.

...and not so far away: http://www.taysidelandrovers.com/

I went along to have a look not so long ago, plenty of LR evidence about. The prices on the website front page are quite a bit out of date though.

A question though, why go for ungalved? Probably the cost breaks down about forty per cent chassis, sixty per cent labour

When I had mine done the chassis was even less of a percentage at 25%. Although this was about 5 years ago and I know prices have changed mine was 1k for the chassis 3k for fitting and other parts.

Yeah, I'd meant to write more, but I was on an ipad which was taking a hissy fit, and stopped allowing me to use numbers or punctuation just at the end of that last post.

It's currently about £5k on a 110, which I think roughly breaks down to £2k for the chassis and £3k for labour and other parts. So, basically if you're going to spend £3k on labour, then it doesn't seem to me to make much sense to save the £1k on a non-galved chassis - a bit of a false economy. Of course that all depends on budget and available cash etc. what seems sensible to one person might not to another.

It's also really worth checking what type of chassis any garage uses. When mine was done - must be about 10 years ago - a mate had his done about a year earlier. Same garage, just a different chassis supplier. They were really different. Mine hasn't lasted well, thought it's obviously well past any guarantee period - his looks as good as it did going on. There are two well known suppliers, and I can't remember which without checking the paperwork. But, if you go down this route, definitely be sure you are choosing the chassis you'd prefer. Maybe I just got one from a bad batch.

Theres a guy called Hamish, with a very good rep in Inverness. I think the place is called highland 4x4 but I could be wrong. Where in Scotland are you. It's a big place.

I've used Strathearn Engineering quite a few times always helpful and knowledgeable a friend had a chassis replacement carried out by them a few years ago and he was very happy with the service and the Defender is still being used daily by his daughter and chassis(galv) is still in perfect nick I had thought of getting them to do mines but stupidly decided to do it myself probably cost me double what it would have if they'd done it.
