My friend's Range Rover ? year ? 15 years old, has failed MOT with rust / body mounts. As a favour to him I have volunteerd to do some welding ........ but have I bitten off too much. Can I just weld the body to the chassis and miss out those rubber mounts. I cant weld aluminium ! That is just in the engine department. What else is lurking further to the rear ? Many thanks for any advise. SK.

are we talking early P38 or a last of the classic here
Thank you for your time / 1992. Its the last of the classic. With a chassis ! So what I'm wondering is: can I just fabricate some mounts with new rubbers. OR does the body need to come off ( or slighly lifted ) I dont know the extent of the repairs, but the one in the engine compartment is f-d.

try yrm metal solutions for body mounts. I'm assuming they'll be similar to disco as they share the same chassis.

hate to say this but its not an easy fix, thats why so many get broken up for spares, i myself been guilty of killing a softy or two because of the extent of the rust. the bulkheads are very liable to a bit of rust as well, have a look behind the soundproofing.

They can all be made up out of box section. Use a hole saw for the rubber bit and then cut off two of the two sides that you don't need leaving a L shape. If you are careful you can get two out of one piece of box section....opposing L shapes
If things are that rusty then you may well find that the bolt has rusted into the rubber mount. This is not a huge problem as you will be cutting the body mount anyway. To be honest, not replaceing the rubber body mounts will make it look like a bodge and will pass a lot of vibration into the bodywork.
