Hi
got a bit carried away on ebay and ended up with a refurbed chasis, plan is to swap out existing one as it needs few patches and metal feels fairly thin in places.
got couple of queries
1 Chassis has v5 with it- will i have to register ie which vichile will be the one i am driving as old chassis probably only good for scrap?
2 Is there any difference between petrol and desiel chassis?
3 What is best way to swap out which involves least dismantling, and any tips etc, how long will it take on average
4 Where is best place to get bolts etc as no doubt will have to cut some

Oh dear, sorry mate, warning you now this could get painful. Put ya thick skin on.

People sell these " refurbished" chassis' off stolen landies.

Have you vin checked the v5?

Are there any numbers on the chassis behind the right front wheel?
 
1 id use your old number ,2 no, 3 lift entire body off including wings if possible i use fork lift ,4 std bolts anywhere screw fix etc special bolts any landy parts place

right the chassis numbers thing ( ive lived this and become quite skilled at finding these buggers )

firstly you havent mentioned weather its a series 2 2a or 3

on series 3 the number should be on the front drivers chassis leg just above the front spring hanger in 8mm characters should be an 8 digit code with a letter after it
eg: 12345678A

on a series 2 or 2a its most common hiding place is on the passengers chassis leg front just behind the engine mount below the starter motor roughly 10" back from the welded engine mount again with the same number of characters and set out as series 3

dont worry if the chassis number is crooked and looks like a rollercoaster as this is pretty typical of landrover

now if the number is not totaly legible it can be brought up with fine sandpaper and tcut on a rag ( its amazing what this can do ) just dont be tempted to use a grinder or belt sander as this will obliterate the numbers hidden in the rust and crap it is however ok to a certain extent to use a brass wire wheel on the end of a drill verry gently to speed up the process

if i were doing this swap and were scrapping my old chassis id cut my original chassis number out of the old chassis and keep that for future reference with a few fotos for proof of the vehicles authenticity
