Chassis Protection

Ooo, first post outta the Series section, i must be growin up!

Anyway, have read about this for a while, and still dont kno whats best!

Basically, after ive stripped of all the body work from my S3 next year, think i might as well protect the chassis whilst its easy to get at.

Whats the best stuff to paint/spray it with?

I was going to waxoyl it then black hammerite over the top, but now i understand that waxoyl is enough???

Ive heard so many different ideas, from coating the chassis with Diesel and EP90, 20w50 sprayed on, Sclutchz (or something), Tectyl, Painting with liberal amounts of Hammerite?

Just think that when the chassis is in good condition i might as well protect it to stay like that!

So what do you think is best??

No, cause i wont be taking everything off. Im only stripping the body, the drive train is staying in.

paint won't stick to waxoyl.
waxoyl is an "overcoat" best applied over a good paint job.

personally, i would go for a couple of coats of Hammerite No 1 Rust-Beater primer, followed by 2 coats of smooth Hammerite (2nd coat must be applied 8-16 hrs after the first, don't forget). Leave that to cure for a couple of weeks, than a good thick dose of waxoyl (including inside any cavities), refreshed annually.

Ive been thinking about waxoyling mine for a while, but while ive been thinking about it ive been keeping it fairly clean underneath and spraying it with a good coat of oil about once a month using a compressor and airline.

I reckon I'll go for the option above in the summer, once ive got all the oil and crap off!

we have a lot of flint tracks here...hammerite was the biggest waste of time ever for me as the flint chipped it badly letting moisture creep..... i stripped my defender to a rolling chassis and treated it and its done an excellent job thats showing no signs of damage to date....

Ebbadger, how much "gravel guard" did you use?

Just wondering how much I should get!

i used about 6 cans of gravelguard at a fiver a can, so 30 quids worth, (halfrauds wanted 7 quid a can)

Like wot Treworgey 90 said is good for normal conditions/use.
