:DHave used this method for many years, along with extra flaps to keep crud off outriggers ect and oil on.[My 1990 working farm 90 still has original rear crossmember] I add just enough diesel so it sprays easy through my spray gun.
I do it twice a year, only takes 10 mins remembering to squirt inside chassis and not to park on anyone's posh drive for a few days.

Thought I would add more info to above.
Have owned said landy since 93 and has had the oil treatment every year.
Plus I live on a headland by the sea and salt coats every thing in stormy weather[like today] and as vehicle lives outside also spray exposed parts of bulkhead. Not what would suit every on I know, but has kept mine good and never needed any welding.
No sign of any acid corrosion but that may be because no ex petrol engine oil used which I think may contain more acids.:)

Hhmmmm. Maybe I might rethink my opinion and try a bit. Thinking about it, chassis around the engine bay seems pretty ok covered in oil.

Mine's a diesel btw

Always been a fan of WaxOyl myself. Although not when applying it with a brush (been there done that!!). Spraying it is the only way, and not from an aerosol can.

This sort of thing:

actually looking at the oil on my diesel dipstick its pretty black and 'orrible so maybe I shall have to change it before it ventures out on the road, hopefully will be enough to do the springs on the s1 and s3
