hi all

i hear that changing an air filter can make your vehicle improve its mpg
is this true or not!!!

i saw a k&n one that seemed to claim it was true
however it looked as though it sat out in the open under the bonnet
surly this would suck in hot air from the engine and i thought the idea was cold air???

v confused from "little snoring" "boringville"

Hi, I changed the airfilter on my P38 for an ITG Profilter, this is a direct replacement and fits in the original housing (thus sucking air from the inner wing as before). The filter is guaranteed for the life of the vehicle.
Their website is ITGAIRFILTERS.COM or phone number is 02476 305386. The part number for a P38 Range Rover is WB-430
I noticed a small increase in power as soon as it was fitted.

Hope this helps.

Thread resurrection... to say I've replaced my ITG Profilter WB-430 filter on a 2.5D after 100,000 miles / 18 years. Originally fitted as part of a JE Engineering 'stage 2' chip & intercooler kit, it's had regular cleaning and re-oiling in that time, of course, but the foam has now started to crumble. New one was ~£40 from Merlin Motorsport. Bargain! I shan't be troubling ITG for replacement under guarantee, I feel I've had my money's worth.

At the same time as the filter change, cleaning of sticky gunk from the inlet manifold ports, plus cleaning of the EGR valve, has made it more responsive* at low engine speeds and eliminated any apparent smoking at kick-down. Easy but messy ~1hr job to improve breathing.

*obviously within the parameters of 2.5d 'performance' ;)
