I have removed the bottom bolt with a 19mm socket, still struggling with the top one as it is awkward to get to. HOwever, i can seem to get the screw out that holds the disc brake to the hub. I assume it is normal and releases anti-clockwise?

Is it just the two star bolts that need to be removed to relase the caliper? Not the other bolt next to the top star bolt?

Don't have the right tool, so using a flathead screwdriver but it won't budge. Tried WD40 - didn't help.

Any suggestions???................. It is getting dark!!!!

I have it on an axle stand at teh jacking point - will it be ok if I leave it overnight
?

Put the wheel back on, gonna drill the screw holding the disc on the hub out tomorrow, you dont really need it anyway.

Gona throw the old pads away I hope and fit new ones, else fook the new discs.

Hate to think what screw you are about to attack with a drill, and throw away.

When you take the hubs off get them in a vice to remove the retaining bolts, check the wheel bearings are nice and shiney with no pits on them and re-pack them with grease.

When tightening the hubs up, take them tight, but dont romp them up spin the hub a few times then back the nuts off and retighten just enough to get the play out, and then just a smiddgen to preload them.

Give it a run and then jack it back up and make sure there is no play in the hubs.

this is a DiscoII brake disc... so no need to **** about with the hubs...

the star is just a multi flat 17mm socket, use a hammer on the end of your ratchet to shock them and they will budge, they are all 'normal' threads.

use a large crosshead or an impact driver to budge the screw.
and reassemble using loctite on all threads...

Cheers guys, had to drill the screws out on both sides in the end, like you said wheels hold on discs so no real need for them anyway. Used lock tight when reassembling and of course replaced the discs and pads, much better now, less travel in brake pedal and more responsive brakes than before. Not bad for £59 delivered and a bit of elbow grease.
