Ordered a new side-mounted fuel tank for my 90 to replace the leaky one, should arrive soon and I need to get it fitted promptly. Is there anything tricky or important that needs to be taken care with when changing them over or is it simply a case of drain what's left in it, undo the pickup, sender and return from the top, undo the 3 or 4 bolts holding it to the chassis and drop it out? Reverse for fitting.

Ta. :)

You wish it was that easy.
The only problem I had was the rear mount had rusted away, so just welded on a new plate.

More refined tools will be used when fitting the new one, don't worry! Thanks for ya help.

How does the sender unit come out? I didn't notice any screws/bolts so I presume it locks in?

the sender is sandwiched to the tank with a steel ring, you'll need to tap it round gently, and the steel ring will loosen up then. quite hard to explain without a picture

It's an arse to get the new tank back in, just keep wiggling it and it will get there without too much force. Enjoy the hunt for the hidden bolt on the front mount bracket!

Thanks for your help guys, though I don't know when I'm going to get time to do it now as I was hoping it'd be delivered in time for doing it this weekend, bloody parcelforce.

May end up doing it by torchlight

Might be an idea to get yourself a nut splitter as well as ive just done mine and the nuts were solid. It did take a bit of wiggling to get it out but well worth it in the end :)

Most of the bolts sheared off when I did mine, it actually helped a bit though as I could just snap them off and use new bolts - it would be worth making sure you have replacements before starting the job

Been so busy I still haven't had a chance to get the tank fitted! Just a quick one so I thought it not worth a new thread - new tank didn't come with any seals and I haven't been able to find out which ones I need.

Does anyone know which seals are needed for a ESR2242 fuel tank? The one with two sender holes.

Thanks. :)
