changing cd player

ive recently bought a sony xplod cd player and am looking at replacing the factory headunit.

i have a 2000 ES with the harmon kardon stereo. i understand that by changing the headunit ill lose steering wheel controls and the rear seat controls (have the 7 seater).

i was just wondering what harness kit i would need as it isnt plug and play. also will i need to make adjusments to the harness to for the remote on?

autoleads do a harness X099 IIRC I have one spare if ya need it you need a patch lead to suit ya make of head unit. Also from Autoleads and costs about a fiver

you are right the unit wont work with the standard connectors i had this prob with my es i got a new becker casscade and could not get it to work with any of the satalight controles go to a car sterio comp and asl for the iso adaptor but this will not help with the steering wheel controles just the radio in the dash

Drew Autoleads do a harness adaptor that allows you to use the dash controls with an aftermarket headunit. you buy the lead and then a seperate Patch lead depending on the make of head unit.

i looked in the auto leads catalogue and bought one of these harness adaptors Autoleads : Stereo Harness Adaptor for LAND ROVER DISCOVERY (1999-2004) BMW Round pins -

i am absolutely rubbish with stereo install. this harness adaptor obviously didnt seem right, is this why i need a patch lead?

doesn't look like the one I have. mine is std ISO connectors with a fly lead and a little black box attached.

isnt that just for steering wheel controls? or will that operate the headunit?

operates the stereo as well
