Hi all,

I've got a late Disco 1 with 24 spline diff and half shalfs. I'm changing the broken diff and half shalfs next weekend with a donor vehicle 10 spline (rangy). There shouldn't be a problem with gearing should there? Presume the diffs turn at the same ratio regardles and that the front 24 spline in the front will be fine running with 10 in the back?

Answer soonest please

For the diffs; this will only work if your current diff does not have the rubber donut coupling on the end. If this is the case then you best best is to change the rear prop shaft as well to link you to the 10 spline diff. The flanges can be changed over, but it is a bit of a mixture of bits.

For the halfshafts; assuming that the 24 splines half shafts you have in the rear already have the 'flat mushroom' ends then there shouldn't be a problem. You may also find that the holes in the end of the 10 spline half shafts are a little too small as they are imperial and the bolts for the 24 spline are metric. Nothing a tickle with a round file or a die grinder can't sort.

Personally I think I would have 'ebay-d' for the right diff and shafts :)
