I followed the workshop manual exactly but it runs like ****.Its like driving with the brakes on and a **** load of smoke.

I took the front cover off to check it all and it all looked good.

The only problem i had (if it is a problem) was that the locking pin that came with the kit (9mm) would hardly go in so i used one from a different kit (8mm) but it would only go in at a slight angle and once it came to removing it,it took some force to pull it out. With the belt slack and the 3 inj bolts tight i could use the bolts to free the pin.

I took a quick vid to show it.

Got to be the inj pump but why has it done this and how do i fix it?

thanks :)

Come to drive this morning and it wont even start now.

Ive got the flywheel locked and its lined up with the arrow on the front but the inj pump in now in the 12 o clock position not 11 but the pin goes in freely.

When i last did mine, even though it was running fine before, and i used all the pins, it would not start (tried, but wouldnt)

I had to loosen the 3 (?) bolts on the plate at the front of the IP, and use the kidney shaped hole for adjustment. I took it right to the end of the travel, and it started fine.

I dont know enough to understand the details, but, as i say, all i know is it was fine before the belt change, and then needed adjustment after.

Yes i have a timing kit.

I tried doing what he did in the video but im sure its meant to be in the 11 o clock position not 12 And it is as far o er as it will go.

Im going to remove the cover and check again.

it is 11 o clock position, once its all timed up correctly, you can loosen the 3 screws on the front of the pump and rotate it with a spanner on the big pump nut to the right to advance the timing, it should help with the smoke

its got to be the injection pump as a 9mm pin should fit, sounds like your injection timing could be a tooth out

If you cant go further one way, i assume youve tried the other way?

If youre at the end of the travel, you could move it a tooth, and then adjust it back the other way?

I know that sounds very imprecise - again, i was just surprised at mine - its probably not the proper way to do it but it worked for me.

Got it sorted and i think i know where i went wrong.

The pin that came with the kit would not fit when i first did it so i used a smaller one,I know know it should be free and smooth and know know how to adjust it. The last person to do the belt must have left it like this.

The locking pin for the flywheel,i don't think it was sitting correctly as i was using the wrong size so that could have been ever so slightly out.

This time i made sure the locking pin was in place, checked the cam line and the inj pump was at 11 but the pin would not go in. I adjusted it and put it all back together and it started first try :)

Nice result.

Its amazing how it can seem so gone, and then you adjust somthing, and it starts right up. A nice eureka moment : )
