Changed Glow Plugs; 2+3 Soaked in Oil

Just changed my glow plugs and air filter, glow plugs on 2nd and 3rd cylinder were covered in oil, is this normal? I dont want to crank it with a cylinder full of oil. Is my head gasket bollocksed perhaps? :doh:

MOre likely your glowplugs are bollixed. try some noo ones or connect em to ya battery and see if the glow!

Thanks, just changed them for new ones, so will give it a whirl then. The wire had broken off the first glow plug too, so only the first one has been heating. Still started well enough though.

Yep, thats what i did, cept my engine is covered in an oily muddy protective layer. Also i ran out of copper greace fitting the P38 tow bar, so some of the excess engine oil had to stand in, better than nothing.

Nice, dident even hear the starter motor when i flicked the key, just pured instantly Been sitting for a week too! Lost about 10 MPH off my top speed though, bit of a problem, think its the new air filter, it has a metal ring around that covers a large area of what was filter fins on the old filter. Maybe the 12J and 19J engines dident have the same filter then. I have a brand new 200tdi air filter here too and its about three times the surface area of filter than on the one i just fitted, i should realy get a 200 air box. Or maybe fit a K&N filter, looks like those run all the way down the box with filter. Will hopfully be dealing with the sands of morocco at some point, so i want to have a filter that actually removes the sand from the air too!
