I have a set of wipac 8" which as standard come with 100w bulbs, these are wired to come on with high beam through a 30A relay, As I live in a rural location they are worth there weight in gold on country roads particularly during winter, my question is if I where to change the bulbs to led obviously they would draw far less power which is a good thing as at times they are on for a fair amount of time, but would I loose or could I gain on there performance if anyone could shed any light on this I would be very great full. Sorry about the pun!

your not going to get a replacement bulb in led for them unless you want something that looks pretty but doesnt do anything.

you need to replace the entire units

you could go HID which would could offer similar lumens for reduced watts.

my 8" 50 watt HID are a bit like the death star planet killer ray thingy

All obligatory lights on a road going vehicle have to be type approved under Vehicle Lighting Regulations.

Converting a type approved (E marked) light to take a different type of light source is ILLEGAL. The type approval refers to the original light source and you are allowed to replace a broken light source like for like. Modify the obligatory light and the type approval is invalid.

these are spotlights and not to be used as driving lights unless you like people crashing into you after you blind them.

as for it being illegal....

oooohhhhhh spank em and send em to jail!

The truth is, no one would care if you changed your spotlight bulbs for another type.

i should mention if you convert your wipacs to another bulb such as an off the shelf hid conversion kit, the beam pattern maybe (probably will!) be totally fooked up as the position of the emmitter will be in the wrong place and if they were say spotlights, they may become more like flood lights.

i cant see for several seconds after i have had my 300w led lightbar on as my eyes have adjusted to the lumens output from that, afterwards its like

"AARRRGGHHH IM BLIND" until they adjust

Fender lights a like two candels total ****.

Ive got a set of 8" 100watt HIDs which is like the sun. Coupled with a paid of 54watt cree LEDs its like fricking portable daylight!
