Mainly for the V8 people among us..

When does your P38 change into 4th lockup?

Oh and a rough estimate for the other change points too..

Around 50 MPH mostly. Mine does it at just above 46 MPH. Following some dick doing 44 MPH on a narrow road is very frustrating. Change points vary subject to throttle and load.

When it's fully hot, and I'm pootling with next to no throttle, mine will change to 4th then immediately lock just a bit under 40. Not driven much since i topped it up slightly just before lockdown

Lock up on both my diesels on a flat road light throttle occurs at 50mph, It will go into 4th below 30 mph on the flat. 3rd locks at abut 40mph, I use 3rd locked behind drivers running under our sill blanket 50mph limit, it more economical than running 4th unlocked.
The ECU is different on the 4.6, so shift and lock up may e different.

Lock up on my V8 is dependent on throttle and the road. Around town on major roads, under light throttle, it can be in 4th by 30km and locked up at 50km quite easily. Under heavier load it might not hit 4th to 70km and lock up about 80km.

since thinking about this, many months ago, i now select 3rd if i'm unlikely to hit 40mph for any length of time, moving up as required.
I also ease of throttle when I can to let the box lock up, then get back on the throttle if i wish to go faster waft with greater momentum

Thanks Gents.

Just getting a baseline for a Friend who has bought a DSE.

Old bus refuses to change below 3000rpm, fluid is past it, might drop the valvebody and clean it out, or rebuild the box.

depends on how far she wants to go with it..

Cheers.
