Hi peeps. 1st proper post:). I,m looking at a centre console on the bay of E (handbrake type) from a 2003 freebie. Anyone know if this would fit a 2000 model? Or do I need to pull up the carpets, etc, to see if the loom runs to the correct place? While i'm on it; does anyone know if there is a mod to get the drivers window to do the auto-up-down thing? Lazy bugger, me:D

I fitted one of the later (taller) centre consoles into a '99 2.0 xedi freelander. Some info posted on another forum/thread when I did it. I added a leather armrest which was well worth the few quid it cost:

You just take the old low console out (two screws at the front, two under the ashtray) and take the two bolts out that hold the (hand brake) retaining plate to the body*. They are screwed into/out of captive nuts so should come straight out. Slide in the plate for the higher console which fits under the handbrake retaining plate and put the bolts back in.

Easiest way to fit the new console is to take the top tray out (four screws) so you can work from above the console.

Consoles are around £70 to £80 delivered off ebay as a complete unit that can just bolt in.
Got the armrest from Duckworth Landrover (Genuine Landy leather armrest) that fits ontop of the console which was £16.45 delivered.

*Just a word of warning though - When taking the two bolts out that hold the handbrake retaining plate to the body make sure you spray some penetrating oil/ wd or similar on to help them free up as they are likely to be solid and if you are not careful you will end up with a drilling and tapping job if you are daft enough to snap one of the buggers!

HTH.

If you mean to get the window to open all the way, without holding the button down all the time, it just needs a quick press, a bit like a single click on the mouse and it should roll all the way down under it's own steam.

Page 65 of owners manual:-

"One touch down (drivers door only)
by briefly pressing (and then releasing) the bottom half of the switch, the window will open fully at a single touch. Window movement can be stopped at any time by briefly pressing the upper half of the switch."

Hi O/P:) According to my manual "the window will stop moving as soon as the switch is released", Page 28. I guess we have different manuals; page 65 in mine is about Starting and Driving. Anyway, I tried it again just in case I was being a numpty and it's as my manual stated. Bummer.

Didn't see a loom there, but I wasn't bothering wiring the windows in anyway so didn't pay much attention. I only wanted the console as an armrest for longer journeys and when towing.
There was no one touch window feature on mine ('99 xedi) and no mod for it as far as I know.
The centre console looked better and the armrest was comfy - but it was a right ball ache using the handbrake after fitting it!

Not much help other than that I'm afraid because after nine years of pretty much touble free and cheap motoring with the Freelander (bought new/ex dem) we sold it a month ago. Sad to see it go as it had been such a good car.

:welcome2:

The one touch option is enabled in the cars computer. It may be that this feature wasn’t enabled on your car, by the main dealer/land rover when first sold?
