Centre console removal

I'm looking to fit speakers into the front of my defender 90 and the most sensible place seems to be in the lower dash.

Anyway, I was wondering whats the easiest way to remove this?

Have I got to remove absolutely everything attached to it? Steering etc?

I got plinths from halfrauds they work perfectly. The only problem (as you can see) is my speakers were slightly too big for them so I had to tape up the gap (now in black tape).

I went on a bit of a trawl at my local scrappy the other day and got some genuine ones, although there were allready holes cut out in the lower dash for speakers, due to the wiper motor there was very little depth for a left speaker, the spacers helped, but it still only just fit. To be honest once cut the drivers side doesnt really need a spacer, but it does look a bit weird having one spaced, the other not. Im 6ft2 and I have no problem with them, still leaves enough legroom

why not mount them in your roof liner just above the door they stay dry up there away from the mud
