Hi all :)

After a bit of advice please. The rr decided last week not to unlock either the n/s/f or o/s/f doors with the remote so had to unlock o/s/f with key but and pull button up for n/s/f.

Checked fuses F9 and F22 all ok so purchased o/s & n/s/f door lock/latch, fitted today and o/s/f works ok on fob but n/s/f still doesn't

When you push the n/s/f door knob down it locks all the doors ?

She has been good for a bit and now something else is amiss !!!! P38 all over  perhaps I should've got a classic ;)

Both my fronts used to do this as the motors had burnt out. I upgraded to the latest receiver and replaced the latches. All good since.

Edited to add-I presume the latches are second hand? It may be that the latch that isn't working has a burnt out motor. If you take the latch out and unscrew the cover, the motor will just pop out. It's pretty obvious if it's burnt out as a) it won't turn freely and b) it will smell burnt. You can buy the rear latch (normally) cheaper and just swap the motors over.

The question is, what caused the locks to fail? Have you got the latest RF receiver? If not stand by for it burning your new locks.

Hi there Datatek
I am sure I have the same problem as the OP (due to fequent loss of battery power (and associated sync issues), N.S. lock going on the fob & then O.S. following last week). I was thinking of posting the same question, and awaiting a similar answer this weekend but have been pre-empt.
Could you please recommend where to source the upgraded replacement RF reciever & the remediation to fix the door locking issues.
Many thanks
S.G.

Thank you
No haven't got new rf reciever, not sure think o/s/f motor died/burn't n/s came out in sympathy !!
Ok so another motor or n/s/f lock/latch & latest rf receiver required ?
Many thanks, will let you know how it shapes up
Sam :)

You can always disconnect the r/f unit till you get the upgraded one to save any locks that are still working. Means you will have to use the key to lock and unlock the car.
On later cars you cannot just disconnect the RF receiver as a sync occurs when you put the key in the ignition, even disconnecting the aerial can on occasion cause this to fail, then you are into EKA codes etc.

Shop around for the RF receiver, they are becoming hard to obtain. Beware of Ebay as often they are old receivers in new boxes.
Locks can be had from Ebay or breakers like Emmotts.:)

Thanks for that advise Datatec. From the post above, I take it that you do not recommend disconnecting the receiver (1996 vehicle)
You can disconnect the aerial and still unlock with the FOB if you hold the FOB close to the O/S rear quarter glass, if it's only battery drain it helps.
However if the receiver is failing internally, it will not stop the locks burning.

Hi Datatec, I have had my r/f receiver disconnected completely now for at least 18 months without any problems. My p38 is a 1998. Do you know the start year of the later models for future reference? Regards
