central locking - alarm problems

Hi all
I am having problems on my '98 300tdi. The driver's door central locking would not operate so I replaced the actuator with one from Maplin. In the proces the alarm went off. It did not switch off after 30 secs and would not respond to the remote control. After about 3 mins it went off. Since then nothing re the remote control and central locking will work. I am unable to test the new unit and everything is now manual. Is there some sort of reset on the central locking or alarm?

If you have a spare remote try using that first. If that fails disconnect the battery. Wait ten minutes. Reconnect and then slowly and repeatedly press the buttons alternating from one to the other. It may take up to 20 button presses to resync. Make sure you know the stereo code before doing it.
