Wife's td4 drivers door lock started playing up, the fob would lock but not unlock the car, a common fault I believe. I was lucky to find one straight away on eBay for £37 delivered - steep for a breaker part I know but hey ho it saved trailing round the yards and maybe having to remove the part myself. The "new" lock works perfectly and normal service has been resumed. The old lock I notice has seven pins in the connector and the new one has eight, my query is what is the eighth pin for?, our FL is an HSE so has most of the bells & whistles etc except cruise, the breakers markings on the lock indicate it is from an earlier car than ours. it is not hugely important as the locks all work fine now..... I am just curious, anyone know the answer???

Seriously, the lock could be used on different rover models, so they make it a universal fitting, apart from that I have not a clue.

Yes, it seems the Rover 75 is identical, handy to know when trailing round the breakers. I have seen listings specifically for 8 pin FL cl motors listed as up to 2002 though. I have had a number of VW Passats that also had lock and window regulator issues just like the FL. There were spare pins in them too, this was because some models had little LED lights in the door card next to the drivers door locking button and some did not. Hmmm, maybe the reason for this extra pin will just have to remain one of life's little mysteries.
