I wanted to swap the standard radio cassette as fitted to my 52 plate freelander ES for a cd head unit (the multi changer under the seat is not very practical) with a Parrot hands free which gives iPhone and USB and mp3 connections.
For the cd I choose the standard Landrover radio cd, reasons being any music you play via the parrot uses the parrots built in amplifier so any super amp,super bass on an expensive cd head unit would be negated playing music via the parrot.
I also wanted to keep the car looking standard and hopefully the CD would not attract unwanted attention having Landrover stamped on it does limit a thieves market.
Thirdly the standard Landrover CD radio is cheap even a new one should cost less than £80
Anyway I struggled a bit with the wiring as the original wiring for the radio goes through a multi plug and the colours don't match up to the standard ISO colours. I could get an adaptor for the cassette radio but not for the cassette to a cd head unit then to the parrot.
So the up shot is I have had to work out what wires go where and it has taking a bit of research but here is what has worked for me it.*

* * ISO Wire. * * * *LR wire
......POWER connection......
* * Grn/wht. * * * * * Red
* * Org/red. * * * * *Org
* * Black. * * ** * * * *Black
* * Yellow * * * * * * *Purple
* * Yellow/blue. * * *Blk/red
* * Brown/blue. * * *NO connection
......SPEAKER connection.....
* * Green/black. * *Grey/black
* * Green. * * * * * * Grey/pink * **
* * Purple/black. * *Blue/black
* * Purple * * * * * ** Blue/pink
* * White/black. * *Yellow/black
* * White. * * * * * * *Yellow/pink
* * Grey/black.* * * *Orange/black
* * Grey. * * * * * * *Orange/pink
.......Steering wheel controls........
Blue mute 3 on parrot to black/white wire from LR connector
Yellow mute 2 on parrot to black /red*wire from LR connector

The above steering wheel controls is true for the standard LR CD player as it supports steering wheel remote controls if you are fitting a 3rd party head unit it will obviously have to support this function or the remote control won't work.

If anyone knows what the 10 pin connector on the LR CD head unit is I would be pleased to know.

Hi Crossa

You sure you can't buy an adaptor to suit? It seems as though you're going about it the long winded route, although you'll certainly get to know your wiring!!

I fitted a Parrot kit to my 54 plate & used a SOT Connector to make it simply plug & Play,

Just a case of un-plug radio, Plig into sot, plug sot into parrot kit, & all done
