CB radio's are they a thing of the past?

The reason I am asking is six years ago I did a trip across Morocco with a group of 5 vehicles. We met up on here. And what a great time we had. I bought a had held CB radio which we used to communicate with each other. The others had built in CB's
Since I came back it's been in the back of a cupboard and hasn't been used. I was having a clear out and came across it. My question is do people still use CB's or are they a thing of the past that has been taken over by cell phones.

Hand held ones don't generally don't have a good range
You can use a CB where there is no phone reception so do have their uses, not really sure why they aren't more popular, maybe they are just too old school to be cool

Still popular among farm workers/contractors around here, mobile coverage is **** poor in many spots.

also logging lorries working in convoy on narrow roads - aids their efforts to intimidate the tourists

I had a CB when they were at their most popular in the 1970's that was when everyone had one especially nobheads. The serious users faded out when they became legal and every 10 year old got one for Christmas. I guess they still have their uses as discussed above.

Citizens Band, one four for a copy, come in good buddy.

They still have a use, as you can't have an open phone call with multiple people (at least not easily and not in the UK or not without internet coverage).

This means they still have a following and use for certain activities, such as green laning, etc and maybe some small commercial use as a licence is not required and they are cheap.

I think gone are the days of youths using them as a means of communication though, as mobile phones are smaller and cheaper. And with the advent of chatrooms and message services, their intended use is superseded.

Which makes it better for people who want to use one now, as you don’t get interference from other users on the same channel, or some idiot playing music on channel 9.
